\u2022IS standards must be followed for understanding design, construction, fittings, testing, valves and use of gas cylinders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Types of safety devices mentioned in IS 5903 are bursting disc, fusible plug, PRV and their combination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022It is prohibited to provide any safety devices on cylinders containing obnoxious or poisonous gases such as CO, HCL,HF, Cl2, SO2 etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Color coding of cylinders should be given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022First verify the marking, number, company, pressure, weight, capacity and date on the cylinder before their use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Cylinder should be handled in its special trolley or gently rolled on its bottom edge but not on the whole surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Long vertical cylinder should be kept upright in its stand or tied with chain to prevent falling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022No flammable materials should be allowed nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022When not in use, the valve should be kept closed and covered with cap. If valve is leaking, it should be repaired by an expert or trained man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Pressure regulator, pressure gauge and NRV should be maintained in working order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Grease or lubricating oil should not be applied on valves or cylinders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Store room of gas cylinders should be well ventilated. Filled and empty cylinders should be kept separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Before testing cylinders, it should be carefully depressurized. Valves should not be interchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Pipeline connected with cylinder should be kept according to the pressure and type of gases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Leakage of flammable gas may be checked by a soap solution and air bubble, ammonia by sulfur dioxide and chlorine by ammonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Quality of cylinders should be restricted. A blast wall is necessary for highly explosive cylinders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Gas flow rate may be known by providing flow meter or  placing the cylinder on a weighing platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022While connecting or changing a cylinder, necessary respirator and eye goggles shall be worn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022For emptying the residual gas the cylinder shall not be heated. Provision of gas cylinder rules and SMPV shall be followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
